Red Stained Glass Celtic Spiral Suncatcher & Window Ornament

Regular price $39.99 Sale price $35.99

About this Piece

This stained glass Celtic spiral has been made using the Tiffany method from high quality stained glass. It can be displayed as a window ornament, or a beautiful house decoration.

The suncatcher measures approximately 3.5" x 3.7" (8.5cm x 9cm). It hangs on a tiger tail wire with a few Swarovski beads. The solder is well polished for extra shine.

Each item is a unique and handcrafted work of art. Natural variations in the glass make each piece a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Ancient Celtic Art

Also known as insular art (from the Latin insula meaning 'island'), Celtic designs were eventually adapted by early Christian artists to adorn their works (most famously with the Book of Kells) and to acclimatize Christianity to the local pagan populations. The most iconic features of Celtic art were the knots, known as icovellavna, which formed stylized patterns for illustration and calligraphy, such as the trinity knot.
Spirals and triple-spirals (triskeles) are also a common motif - the latter being related to the importance of the number three in Celtic mythology. As the ancient Celts migrated from Central Europe to Ireland and Britain, the designs likely have a mainland origin - though Christian missionaries from these islands would later help reintroduce the art back to Europe.

About the Maker

Ard aLume is a stained glass studio based in the town of Ballinrobe in County Mayo, specializing in dazzling items ranging from doors, windows, skylights, small panels, mirrors and candleholders to suncatchers and personalized gifts for all special occasions.

The designers, Magdalena and Daniel Dubaj, construct stained glass panels using the highest quality handmade glass. Their designs are entirely original, taking inspiration from the glass itself and natural variations in the material, making each finished piece a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

By using the same copper foiling technique as used by Louis Comfort Tiffany - an Art Nouveau pioneer of stained glass - they are able to produce vibrant glass gifts of incredible detail.
