Burke Family Crest

Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. Beautifully arranged in this Irish coat of arms parchment is an artistic celebration of the Burke Irish surname. The Burke family crest is illustrated at the center and surrounded by famous Celtic symbols of Ireland. These illustrations are a wonderful dedication to Irish last names.

Imagine having this beautiful story of your name hanging on your living room wall for all to study over a glass of wine, or to take a glimpse at it when having your Barry's tea on the couch. There is so much to take in. This parchment is an heirloom for many generations yet to come. It's a wonderful reminder of your Irish heritage.

On your living room wall, you will always be reminded of your Irish origins and it will be a show stopper for visiting friends and family. Presenting a family coat of arms gift is a truly special gift for the home for someone special who has that unique Irish connection.

The Burke Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the Burke family hisory parchment:

This surname was brought to Ireland in the Anglo-Norman Invasion of 1179 by William Fitzadelm de Burgo, who was dubbed 'William the Conqueror' and became chief governor of the island. For his services, he was granted huge estates in Connaught, and his line subsequently became more integrated into the Gaelic way of life than any other Norman family they adopted Brehon Law and established separate clans in the traditional manner - the two most important of these being McWilliam Wachter of Galway and McWilliam Lochtar of Mayo. There were two de Burgos who were bishops of Clonfert in the 16th century, but it was mainly on the battlefield and in politics that the name won renown. One line of the Bourkes became peers in 1543, and the Earl of Clanrickarde commanded a regime for James II. After the latter's defeat, they joined many other prominent families in selling their military expertise to continental armies. Toby, who died in 1734, went to Spain; Raymond, born almost forty years later, became a French peer and Napoleonic commander. The 18th-century statesman Edmund Burke was famed for his eloquent classical discourses in Parliament, while in the following century Reverend Thomas Nicholas Burke was known as the Prince of Preachers'. John Burke and his son, Bernard initiated the exhaustive study of Geneology and Peerages, which now bears their name. Several Burkes have hit the deadlines: Richard Southwell Burke was murdered in 1872 while Governor-General of India, Robert Burke survived the harsh and extreme conditions of the Australian desert when he crossed it on foot for the first time in 1680, he, unfortunately, died of starvation when he attempted to recross it for the return journey.
