The Breen Family Crest

Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. Beautifully arranged in this Irish coat of arms parchment is an artistic celebration of the Breen Irish surname. The Breen family crest is illustrated at the center and surrounded by famous Celtic symbols of Ireland. These illustrations are a wonderful dedication to Irish last names.

There is so much to take in. This parchment is an heirloom for many generations yet to come. It's a wonderful reminder of your Irish heritage.

On your living room wall, you will always be reminded of your Irish origins and it will be a show stopper for visiting friends and family. Presenting a family coat of arms gift is a truly special gift for the home for someone special who has that unique Irish connection.

The Breen Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the Breen family history parchment:

This surname is derived from the Gache names McBraoin and OBraoin but, although widespread in Ireland, it had dropped both prefixes as early as 1659. The McBreens were an ancient sept who flourished in Ossory, around knocktopher. Their importance declined with the upheaval of the Anglo-Norman Invasion in 1179, and they scattered. The many present-day Breens in the neighbouring county of Wexford are, therefore, in all likelihood, their descendants. Perphaps the more important family, the O'Breens, held territory in the bare and lonely peat bogg of Offaly and Westmeath. In 1421 O'Breen, Lord of Brawney is cited among the great chieftans of the Irish nation. Branches of this sept lived in north Connaught where, over the centuries, their name was corrupted to Bruen-in County Roscommon and Browne-in Mayo. It is thought that William Browne, born at Foxford ID 1777, and renowned as the creator of the Argentine Navy, may have been descended from the O'Breens of Connaught. Darry N. Breen was a well-known nineteenth-century poet; while in 1793 at the height of the Terror in France, listed among the Irish nuns who were arrested, was one Elizabeth Breen. The nineteenth century was a period of mass emigration as thousands ventured to the New World in an effort to escape the poverty and unemployment of Ireland one such person, a Michael Brien, set sail on the 'Sea Bird' from the Palway on the 15th kide 1848, bound for Quebec. He was 22 when he sailed and had little to lose: a caoin on a road of land Broughill. He was single. The variation in spelling may be accounted for by the fact that literacy was not one of the talents the emigrants took with them.

Dissatisfied

Firstly communication has been horrendous. Totally unprofessional. Secondly I ordered my shield like 5 months in advance for a 40th birthday and it comes with the totally wrong logo for one of the families. It isn’t the family shield. With only about 5 weeks left and with no response to my email looks like the birthday surprise has been ruined. I’m out of luck getting it elsewhere now due to the time restrictions. There was no communication asking if the logos were the correct ones for the families. No reply to my email to fix the mistake. Totally upset and disappointed in the service especially on the communication front.

A beautiful plaque commemorating the joining of our two families

Aidan and his team did a beautiful job creating a dual coat of arms wall plaque and included our anniversary. The workmanship is outstanding and customer service is excellent. A great organization to work with. Thank you.

Just What I Was Hoping For

The team at Gifts of Ireland did an outstanding job creating my husband's family crest shield based upon the original design. It's exactly what I was hoping for. Their team is excellent to work with and very timely in their correspondence. The family history sheet is a bonus and nice to have. Thank you!
