About this piece

This miniature Blarney Castle is a popular item for those thinking of home. It's the perfect mantle ornament for any ex-pat, but especially those who have visited Blarney and kissed the famous Blarney Stone. Built nearly six hundred years ago in County Cork by one of Ireland's greatest chieftains, Cormac McCarthy, the castle has been attracting attention ever since. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney, making it a world landmark and one of Ireland's greatest treasures. The Blarney Stone is the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of the tower. Kiss it and you'll never again be lost for words!

This pewter sculpture is a thoughtful Irish gift for the home, as a souvenir or for anyone missing the wonders of home.

About the Maker

Mullingar Pewter combines traditional handcrafted techniques that take many years to perfect, along with modern advances, producing wonderful heritage gifts. Pewter has existed since ancient Egyptian and Roman times (as an alloy of tin mixed mainly with copper and antimony), and came to Ireland 800 years ago, becoming popular among the wealthy and for ceremonial purposes.

In 1974, Paddy Collins opened his workshop in the town of Mullingar, County Westmeath. It is here in the Irish midlands that Paddy revived the ancient craft of pewter manufacturing in Ireland.
