About Irish Heraldry
Traditional coat of arms designs date back to the 12th century, where decorating defensive shields became a useful way of identifying knights in the heat of battle. These insignia were created by officials known as heralds, who also recorded and regulated armorial bearings. Their records were known as blazons. Typically a blazon has three components - arms (the 'flag' part of the image), crest (the design surrounding the flag), and the motto (which often originated as a war cry).
When I went to Clare Island with my daughter and saw the house (the walls were left) where my Grandfather had been born, the house his father had built with nothing but rocks and his hands, I was overwhelmed. We then saw the "coat of arms" on the wall of the Abbey, I guess it's called, I knew I wanted to be able to look at that forever. I've looked for years, and one day came upon this web site & there it was! I ordered a medium sized one for myself and a small for my daughter. I gave my daughter hers on Mother's Day with my Granddaughter (8 ears) present. I told my daughter that I have one slightly bigger and when I die, she gets mine and gives her plaque to her daughter. My granddaughter took the plaque in her hands and marveled at it. She said it was beautiful. She's right. The work is so meticulous and the sails on the ship are perfect. She held to her chest and said she loved it. My daughter does too, as do I. Thank you so much for providing this service. Mine is hanging on my wall for all that enter to see. Warm Regards to all that made this possible.
They are perfect in every way. The painting is so precise. I love it. When I gave the smaller one to my daughter, my granddaughter was there. She thought it so wonderful, she held it to her heart and told us how special & precious it is.
